Les Misérables Production Wasn't So Miserable

Les Misérables is a play, book, and movie set in 1832 during the French Revolution. The story follows a man named Jean Valjean, a former convict, who is in search of a better life. After breaking parole, Valjean escapes and becomes a factory owner and the mayor of a small town. As time passes, Valjean meets one of his old factory workers who has become ill and is dying. He promises that he will take care of her young daughter, Cosette. At a recent Oak Ridge High School Theatre performance of this play, I was able to witness a wide showcase of talent from the cast members. The entire cast was able to deliver a remarkable performance, even though several of the cast members were debuting during the show. For example, Drew Wilson, playing the role of Thénardier, was very enthusiastic and was convincing in the role, making his delivery a delight for the audience. Another talented performer was Adele Trapp, a junior portraying the character of adult Cosette, was able to captivate the audience with her melodic singing and impressive acting skills. Although there was a lot of work done on stage, everybody working behind the scenes was able to make this show possible and assist in the superb delivery. They ensured that the show ran smoothly, helped with makeup and hair styles, designed costumes, and made the detailed set for this production. Let us not forget the director of the show, Kate Rolls, who is also the drama teacher at Oak Ridge and was able to lead this production and talented students to deliver a wonderful performance.
